Longest Day of the Year…Better party our way through it. If the Druids could do it, why can’t we?!
June 21st is the first day of summer. It’s also when the sun is at its northernmost point in the sky. And if that’s not reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is!
Solstice celebrations have occurred throughout the centuries AND throughout the world. Scandinavians drink vodka, eat herring and sing and dance around a Maypole. Groups gather at sunset in Stonehenge. Native Americans do ritual sun dances. Some light bonfires, others beat drums.
But leave the herring and robe wearing to someone else. Let’s create our own Summer Solstice Party right here. Right now.
Let us shine a light on some bright ideas:
*Invite your girlfriends over for sun salutations and get your yoga on in your yard.
*Elevate a backyard BBQ with baskets of glow sticks, flashlights, sparklers and sidewalk chalk that glows. Add in Solstice s’mores and summer slushies just for good measure.
*Get the grown-ups in on the hoopla. Prepare a peppy playlist of sun-themed songs. Kick it off with “Here Comes the Sun.” Serve up Golden Grilled pizzas. Don’t forget to serve a signature cocktail – how ‘bout Summer Solstice Sangrias.
Take a cue from different parts of the world and make YOUR part of the world a lil’ brighter by adding your own solstice spin to celebrate #longestdayever!
